5/8/2020 NOTICE: Due to COVID-19 and social distancing guidelines, all four sessions of the Summer 2020 ABFD Jr Lifeguard Camp have been cancelled. Refunds will be issued to all participants. You do not need to do anything to receive your refund. Those that paid by check will be mailed check refunds. Those that registered online will see their refund issued back to the card used during registration. We deeply apologize and cannot wait to see all of these campers in the Summer 2021 sessions.
Atlantic Beach is excited to offer the Atlantic Beach Junior Lifeguard program to our citizens and visitors. There are four different sessions held annually.
For planning purposes, the 2020 dates for each session are below:
SESSION 1, June 8 – June 12 (Ages 9-12)
SESSION 2, June 22 – June 26 (Ages 9-12)
SESSION 3, July 13 – July 17 (Ages 13-17)
SESSION 4, July 27 – July 31 (Ages 13-17)
Registration forms will be available at Town Boardroom, starting March 2nd at 8am. Each registration form should have its own payment of $50 (cash or check only). If paying for multiple children, each child will need to be registered and paid separately. Spaces per session are first come, first serve – no reservations. Parents/guardians may wish come prior to 8am on March 2nd and get in line outside of the Town Boardroom front door as sessions tend to fill up quickly. We will post the registration form shortly thereafter for any remaining spaces per session. Parents/guardians should know their session preference when they arrive to assist in the registration process.
This program is very popular and space is limited. If for some reason your child cannot attend their session, please notify the fire station to allow that child’s slot to be filled by another participant. It is extremely important for you to note your child’s session dates. You will not receive a confirmation phone call regarding your child’s admission into the program. If you submitted the application and do not receive a phone call then your child’s application has been accepted.
Four Junior Lifeguard sessions will be conducted for the summer of 2020. The four sessions are broken down by age group. Each session is run Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 12:00pm. On the Friday of each session we will be holding a junior lifeguard demonstration from 9:30am-12:00pm. This is an opportunity for the parents to come out and see what their children have learned at Junior Lifeguard Camp. Following the demonstration, all participants and parents are encouraged to attend a graduation ceremony including lunch at the Atlantic Beach Fire Station from 12:00pm-1:00pm.
Class size is limited to 40 participants and will be on a first come first serve basis.
The junior lifeguard program is not a swim school. All participants must be competent swimmers. All activities will be located at the Main Circle Beach. All participants need to arrive each morning at 8:50am and meet at the main lifeguard stand in Atlantic Beach at the Circle Beach Access. NOTE: All numbered parking spaces at the Main Circle Beach Access are paid parking ($2/hour, 10am – 6pm, credit card only)
All participants are urged to bring a towel, a water bottle for refilling, and sunscreen.
Registration Fee & Uniform Policy:
There is a $50.00 program fee. The registration fee covers the cost of the uniform shirt, all activities, and graduation luncheon. This is a non-refundable fee and must be submitted with the completed application. All participants are responsible to provide their own red bathing suit suitable for athletic activities. Enforcement of the dress code is important to ensure uniformity and safety.
