On November 2, 2018, the Town of Atlantic Beach began allowing golf carts that are registered with the Town and that meet specific safety requirements to be operated on the public streets with a posted speed limit of 35 mph or less; except for NC 58 (Ft. Macon Road) and the Atlantic Beach Causeway. Registration can be done online HERE. Please call the Atlantic Beach Police Department during regular business hours (M-F, 8am-5pm) if you have any issues completing this process.
SAFETY INSPECTIONS WILL BE CONDUCTED AT YOUR RESIDENCE BY APPOINTMENT ONLY on weekdays (M-F) and will be scheduled by the AB Police Department after receiving your registration or renewal paperwork. Please do not bring your golf cart to ABPD for inspection. Click HERE to see the list of safety equipment needed to pass an inspection.

***Golf Cart Parking ONLY Spaces***
Recently, there has been some confusion about the new golf cart parking spaces that the Town has installed at the Circle, Raleigh Ave, and Dunes Ave beach accesses. These spots are reserved for AB-registered golf carts only. Low-speed Vehicles (LSVs) are different from golf carts and are subject to different rules. A low-speed vehicle may look like a golf cart, but it has a state license plate and a state vehicle registration. Correctly licensed LSVs can drive on any public road where the speed limit does not exceed 35 mph (unlike “golf carts”). Because an LSV has a state-issued license plate, it is considered a “vehicle” rather than a “golf cart” and must follow all of the operational and parking rules that your family car is required to follow. Therefore, an LSV cannot park in a space marked “GOLF CART PARKING.” If the LSV does not have a parking permit, they must pay the hourly parking rate just like any other vehicle.
