The Atlantic Beach Police Department is committed to building a better community through interaction with citizens and visitors, crime prevention, and neighborhood programs.
House Check Request – The Police Department offers a free House Check Service to citizens of the Town of Atlantic Beach to help prevent crime and to protect your peace of mind while you are away from home. Simply send an email to policeadmin@atlanticbeach-nc.com with the following details listed or call the Front Desk at 252-726-2523 and our officers will keep an eye on your residence while you are gone as circumstances allow:
- Your name
- The address to be watched
- The date you are leaving
- The date you are returning (no more than 30 days at a time, please)
- Description of vehicles being left at the home (i.e. “red Honda in the driveway”)
- Description of which rooms will have lights on while you are gone (i.e. “the front room on the second story”)
- Your contact number
- Name of anyone who has permission to be on your property while you are away (i.e. “my son will be watering my plants on Wednesdays”)
Home Security Checklist – Our Home Security Checklist is designed to help you as a homeowner/resident to assess your property in terms of its vulnerability to criminals.
Volunteers In Police Services (VIPS) – If you are 55 years of age or older and would like to volunteer to be an extra set of eyes and ears for the Atlantic Beach Police Department then we encourage you to become a Volunteer in Police Service (VIPS). VIPS members perform routine tasks such as vehicle patrols, business checks, and administrative duties. In addition, they often assist at special events where extra hands may be needed. Complete a Volunteer Application or contact policeadmin@atlanticbeach-nc.com for more information.
Citizen’s Academy – Community members have the opportunity to learn about different aspects of a police officer’s duties and the way the Atlantic Beach Police Department operates with the goal of creating citizens who can then use that knowledge and experience to act as intermediaries between their neighbors and the police department.
National Night Out (NNO) – A free community event held every August and hosted by the police department and sponsored by the merchants of Atlantic Beach. Come join the fight for a safer community in a night of fun designed to promote neighborhood spirit featuring free food, prize giveaways, a bike raffle, a D.J., bouncy houses, and more.
Special Olympics Torch Run – As a proud supporter of the Special Olympics the Atlantic Beach Police Department participates in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run event. Every year Atlantic Beach officers help carry the “Flame of Hope” across the state in a relay run that culminates at the opening of the Special Olympic Games in Raleigh. ABPD Spooky Seas Trunk or Treat – The 1st Annual event was held on October 30, 2018, with over 3,000 children and families in attendance. The ABPD is proud to partner with the Atlantic Beach Parks and Recreation Department to offer this free community event and are making plans for 2019.
